On Tour | Did we ever tell you that we were fans of Mikko Innanen ?

The Finnish saxophonist has surrounded himself with an exceptional cast of musicians for his new project.

Since his professional debut as a teenager in the mid-1990s, Mikko Innanen has never stopped exploring the broad field of jazz through a retro-futuristic prism that he reinvents in the course of his multiple projects and collaborations. Co-leader of a new trio with Danish drummer Stefan Pasborg and Cédric Piromalli on organ, member of Peter Eldh’s vocalnique Koma Saxo, he has just been elected “Rising Star” on baritone saxophone by the critics’ committee of Down Beat magazine. In the Autonomus quartet, he invites Håvard Wiik, the Norwegian pianist of the mythical Atomic, a fellow traveller with Ole-Morten Vågan and Bugge Wesseltoft; Antti Lötjönen, the leading bassist of the Finnish scene, who can be found alongside Verneri Pohjola and Timo Lassy, and even in a trio with Jeff “Tain” Watts and Kurt Rozenwinckel; the Dane Peter Bruun, drummer of Django Bates’ trios and Samuel Blaser, Marc Ducret’s companion in the Tower-Bridge adventure, leader of the All Too Human quartet of which Ducret is a member.

“Marked by a great spontaneity, crossed by an irrepressible vital impulse, their music is one that grabs you and never lets go, the antithesis of the clichés of a supposed Scandinavian coldness.”
