Vocal ensemble
at Zibou Lab
Founded in 2018 in Lyon by Gilles Poizat, STIMMLIPPE is a vocal sextet that blends operatic singing, free improvisation, underground music and the performing arts — from Bach to Tom Waits, from written scores to radical sound experiments. A multi-layered world in which it is a pleasure to lose oneself, whether on stage, in the forest or by a log fire.
In 2024, Emmanuel Scarpa (composer and percussionist) was invited to write for the ensemble and to join them as a singer. From this collaboration emerged the programme TEMPUS FLUENS for six voices and percussion. The musical composition, mirroring the water cycle, evolves in perpetual motion, with no true beginning or end. Collectively, within this written music, the group explores the intersections between melody, canon and repetitive minimalist music — with the vocalists also using gongs and found percussion instruments (wooden planks, pebbles, sticks, a screen-printing frame, a bucket…).
