Tempus Fluens

Founded in 2018 in Lyon by Gilles Poizat, STIMMLIPPE is a vocal sextet that blends operatic singing, free improvisation, underground music, and the performing arts—from Bach to Tom Waits, from sheet music to radical sound experiments. It’s a multi-layered world in which it’s a pleasure to lose oneself, whether on stage, in the forest, or in front of a fireplace.
In 2024, Emmanuel Scarpa (composer and percussionist) was invited to write for the ensemble and to join it as a singer. From this collaboration emerged the program TEMPUS FLUENS, bringing together Vivianne Balsiger, Anne Davienne, Greg Gilg, Marie Nachury, Gilles Poizat, and Emmanuel Scarpa. Dedicated to research and creation, the group explores within this written music the intersections between lyrical singing, canon, and repetitive minimalist music—with the vocalists also using gongs and found percussion instruments (wooden planks, pebbles, sticks, screen-printing frames, buckets, etc.) to create unexpected sonic textures.
