Three female singers, four male singers and a percussionist from the northern shores of the Mediterranean make up BARRUT, an Occitan polyphonic ensemble whose seven voices rise in subtle harmony and powerful emotional intensity. Rooted in the origins of polyphonic singing, they intertwine these traditions with the driving rhythms of percussion.
Through original compositions infused with the vitality of folk song, BARRUT channels both fervour and defiance into a music that remains constantly poised above the world’s madness. Drawing equally from traditional polyphony and contemporary music, the band’s sound moves through a thrilling, festive and subversive space that has always belonged to poetry. While deeply rooted in the Occitan repertoire, they also write and perform their own texts.
The septet presents its new repertoire with CONTRA-FUÒCS, marking a new chapter in the group’s musical aesthetic. Enriched by influences from rock, neo-classical music and cinematic composition, the performance moves through contrasting sonic landscapes, alternating suspended moments with raw intensity.
