Louis Sclavis Shunkan Trio

France

For several decades, clarinettist Louis Sclavis has been a leading figure on the Lyon jazz and improvised music scene, whilst also making his mark far beyond it. A key figure in the ARFI and a long-standing collaborator with musicians such as Henri Texier and Michel Portal, he has built up a unique body of work, recognised with the Django Reinhardt Prize and the Sacem Grand Prix.

For this new trio, he has teamed up with two exceptional musicians: the remarkable cellist Bruno Ducret and the talented drummer Samuel Ber.

Influenced by a multitude of different musical styles – jazz, chamber music, traditional music, rock, noise and metal – Bruno Ducret has developed a free and distinctive style, shaped by his numerous artistic collaborations. Samuel Ber, for his part, is described as a ‘virtuoso-poet of the drums’, whose playing is ‘as mathematical as it is sensual’. As a musician-researcher, he has developed a demanding and open-minded approach within the world of improvised music, seeking creative ways to achieve a state of collective flow where individual voices, perspectives, concepts and contexts coexist and merge.

Together, the three musicians weave a dialogue in which listening, freedom and improvisation respond to one another with intensity. A spirited and poetic performance, rooted in the delicate balance of the present moment.
