Marsèl ek Ti’kaniki

Marsel Philéas (aka Willy) is an emblematic figure in maloya music. Pillar and right-hand man of his father Granmoun Lélé, he traveled the planet to the sound of their historic albums to broadcast this music at a time when it was still completely unknown.

Marsel’s music being an avant-garde of maloya, the union is perfect with the Ti’kaniki group. These metropolitan and Creole enthusiasts have been talking about themselves and especially about maloya for almost 10 years now. They organize regular kabars which bring together an audience in their hometown Lyon, tour across Europe and regularly welcome groups from Reunion Island. They totalize hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube.

Their style testifies to their roots in other traditional music: a resolutely modern maloya which perfectly serves the pen of Marsel Philéas, recognizable among thousands. A craftsman of Creole speech, a rhythmician of the word, he bounces the syllables to the rhythm of the roulèr and the sati, sometimes giving space for a gentle poetry that he strives to transmit to the public with unparalleled generosity.
