Brìghde Chaimbeul
A prodigious player of the small Scottish bagpipes – the softer, more emotive cousin of the famous Highland bagpipes – Scottish musician Brìghde Chaimbeul has taken her instrument to the world stage, producing hypnotic, mystical and moving melodies that are captivating an ever-growing audience. Regularly recognised with awards (BBC Young Folk Award; BBC Horizons Award; nominated for the SAY Award), she also has a wide range of collaborators (with saxophonist Colin Stetson on the album Carry Them With Us and musicians Caroline Polachek and Gruff Rhys, among others). But ultimately, it is her music that speaks for itself. Haunting, spellbinding, breathtaking, this artist with an open ear and discreet virtuosity transforms and creates new definitions of Scottish folk in the 21st century.
The Brìghde Chaimbeul concert is organised as part of Better Live, a project co-funded by the European Union’s Creative Europe programme.
