Sacrificial Chanting Mood
Sacrificial Chanting Mood (Rotterdam) brings together Alicia Breton Ferrer and Doortje Hiddema (aka Euroboy), both prominent figures on the Dutch indie rock scene and beyond, having each written, performed and recorded for over ten years. Alicia Breton Ferrer is part of the noise-pop trio The Sweet Release of Death and the post-punk/noise pop escapades of Neighbours Burning Neighbours; Euroboy is part of Real Derek and Rats on Rafts. Calling all DIY pop and post-punk fans!
This five-person project is actually the result of a rich correspondence between two Dutch women, Alicia Breton Ferrer and Doortje Hiddema, during the pandemic.
Sacrificial Chanting Mood’s music mixes scansions and choirs, with vocal layers blending with the instruments. The guitar swells, the bass lines tighten, and the drums hammer away. And then comes the thrill.
There is a striking paradox between the Olympian calm of the performance and the tremendous emotional build-up that occurs. One might almost venture to draw a parallel with the feeling one gets at a concert by Lewsberg, another Rotterdam-based band.
The Sacrificial Chanting Mood concert is organised as part of Better Live, a project co-funded by the European Union’s Creative Europe programme.
