In Spirit

On the initiative of Toulouse pianist Betty Hovette, the trio In Spirit revisits the legacy of Don Pullen, sideman pianist for Charlie Mingus and Nina Simone and leader of his own ensembles.

But there is no question of allowing themselves to be pigeonholed into stylistic categories. For Betty Hovette, Sébastien Bacquias and Fabien Duscombs, following the example of Don Pullen’s work, it is important to give free rein to their artistic desires, to use dissonance while remaining highly lyrical.

Don Pullen is therefore a model, not an influence.
