Winners of the Jazz Migration programme, the hybrid quintet Franges — led by flautist and saxophonist Léa Ciechelski — delicately blends acoustic sounds with electronic textures.

Franges’ music is ethereal, swirling and effervescent, with calm, meditative atmospheres layered over complex textures.

Through long, meandering or lyrical melodies, the improvisations become daring, giving pride of place to dazzling flights of fancy. The acoustic sounds are at times distorted, reproduced or transformed, expanding the perspectives and soundscapes. The rhythm section, with its heady groove, is also playful and at times impulsive, disrupting a latent tranquillity.
