Radio Hito
In partnership with the Maison de La Musique Contemporaine
With Radio Hito, the Italian-Vietnamese artist Zen My Nguyen has quickly made a name for herself in recent years thanks to her minimalist yet powerful performances at festivals and venues across Europe.
Following two albums released on Midi Fish and Kraak Records, she unveiled ‘L’uso e gli attributi del cuore’ last April, co-released by Maple Death and Meakusma and adapted from Claude Royet-Journoud’s book ‘L’usage et les attributs du cœur’ (POL, 2021). Ten movements of a lied for soundfonts and voice, accompanied by a booklet in Italian. The work evolved over the course of some 80 concerts, from Galicia to Kazakhstan, before taking its recorded form.
On stage, the project has been adapted for prepared piano, grand piano, electric keyboard, FM radios, church organ, Philicorda and an AV version, with occasional contributions from Suzan Peeters (accordion), Alex Andropoulos (Able Noise) (percussion/drums), Arthur Chambry (percussion/trumpet), David Bennewith and Omar Cheikh (visuals), Fera (electronics), Adrián de Alfonso (FM amplification), and Lieven Dousselaere (sound engineering).
