Ti’kaniki Kabar Maloya invite Palenque (Afroperu)

The lively Ti’kaniki maloya collective is continuing its series of unique kabars. The kabars at Le Périscope are moments of communion around Réunion’s Maloya, and they also provide an opportunity to invite other traditional music groups to share the stage. This meeting with Palenque (Afroperu), between Maloya and Afro-Peruvian music, is a natural fit: so far away, yet so close rhythmically, Afro-Peruvian music shines with elegance and subtlety. The beat of the famous Peruvian cajon resonates in the depths of the Creole roulèr.

Each group will perform a set before bringing the two traditions together in an explosive encounter. The stage will then be open for everyone to play, sing and dance the Reunion.

Palenque

Palenque is an Afro-Peruvian music trio. Combining the festejo and the landó, the zapateo, the violin and the cajón. Rooted in José Ballumbrosio’s family traditions, their music is a tribute to the rich Afrodescendant cultures of Peru’s southern coast. Faithful to the folklore and processions of the city of Carmen, their repertoire is traditional and reflects the unique Afro-Andin mix of this region of Peru.
