Chocho Cannelle brings together Camille Heim (harpist), Léo Danais (drummer), Arthur Guyard (pianist), and Timothé Renard (clarinetist): four musicians who explore the many facets of this unique instrumentation. Camille Heim draws out the full potential of her harp by playing it like an electric bass. She thus plays the dual role of soloist and accompanist. Timothé Renard adorns his bass clarinet with a multitude of effects that transport us to electronic and saturated realms. Keyboards hold no secrets for Arthur Guyard, who moves between enveloping textures and lyrical improvisations. Léo Danais underpins the ensemble with the warm, colorful rhythms of his drums.
The magic works and the result is clear: a instantly recognizable group sound in which each member becomes an indispensable cog in this organic entity. Together, they distill music that is by turns dynamic, danceable, cinematic, gentle, and moving.
Chocho Cannelle made a remarkable debut with the public and the press: in June 2022, the band won the Concours National de Jazz à La Défense. This was followed by the release of their first EP, Libre à l’intérieur, in January 2023, which was voted “Révélation Jazz Magazine” and was a favorite of Alex Dutilh on France Musique. The group made several appearances on Club Jazz a FIP and on the Banzzai and Open Jazz programs on France Musique. Their rise continued with their selection for the finals of the Rezzo Jazz springboard in Vienne in July 2023 and a national tour of numerous festivals and concert halls in 2023/2024.
