Restitution of free improvisation workshops

The Free Improvisation Workshops (AIL) have been running for three years. Since their creation, more than 60 workshops have been held, bringing together just over 90 improvising musicians. There have also been several special workshops led by Jean-Marc Foussat, Cesario Fa, Xavier Charles & Mathieu Bec, Julia Robert, Julian Sartorius, Camila Nebbia & Antoine Viard, Sakina Abdou and Emmanuel Scarpa.

This Wednesday, 2 July, some of them will be playing music that is unprecedented in the truest sense of the word: freely improvised music.

“While it is difficult to describe freely improvised music appropriately, it is even more complicated to describe the activity itself. Diversity is the most obvious characteristic of this music. It does not adhere to any particular style or language, nor does it conform to any particular sound. Its identity is determined solely by the musical identity of the people who practise it.” (Derek Bailey)
