Abdou / Gouband / Warelis

Following her acclaimed debut solo album (The Wire, The Quietus, The New York City Jazz Record, Freistil, We jazz magazine…), Sakina Abdou’s second album finds her where she’s least expected. Surrounded by the astral touch of Polish pianist Marta Warelis and the vegetal strike of French drummer Toma Gouband, the saxophonist releases her first trio album on the New York label “Relative Pitch Records” in autumn 2024, offering her a second “carte blanche”. The trio offers free music, playing with the dilution of themes, surveying the idea of a collective game like caressing a torn canvas. It celebrates the idea of a weft sewn from snippets, ashes, echoes and ghosts, like a taut thread that binds, stretches and contains multiple stories.
