The Geothèque team is delighted to invite you to the first geo-café of 2025: ‘Geography and anarchist thought, between science and emancipation’, to mark the publication of ‘Les histoires d’Elisée Reclus, divulgation scientifique et émancipation’, a new volume in the Espaces critiques collection published by the Presses universitaires de Lyon.

This café géo will be an opportunity for Benoit Bodlet, author of the book, and Thomas Zanetti, lecturer in urban geography (Lyon 3), to exchange views. This café géo will explore the links between geography, anarchist thought and commitment, through the intellectual legacy of Élisée Reclus, his practice of scientific disclosure and the contemporary perspectives he inspires.

This is a unique opportunity to discuss the links between scientific knowledge and emancipation projects in geographical practices, and to question the links between the development of spatial knowledge and political perspectives. The evening will conclude with a discussion with the audience.
