Swell + Guests

Hailing from San Francisco, The Swell released their self-titled debut album in 1991, but it was with their second album, “… Well?”, followed by *41* in 1994, that the band firmly established themselves on the mid-90s music scene as an essential reference (and a defining spirit): a grey, hazy blend of folk and rock (or pop?) of unprecedented precision and balance. Songs with a sombre mood and stunning beauty, multi-layered songwriting, and hauntingly compelling vocals. Thirty years on, the appeal of this major body of work remains undiminished.

The band is set to embark on a European tour under the name ‘Members of Swell’. Originally founded by the late David Freel and Sean Kirkpatrick in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district, Swell has become a cult band, renowned for its cinematic, raw and undeniably melancholic soundscape.

For this tour, founding members Sean Kirkpatrick (drums) and John Dettman-Lytle (vocals/guitar) are joined by Tim Adams (bass) and Philippe Gunst (guitar/keyboards, Fragment). Together, they revisit Swell’s repertoire with renewed energy whilst remaining true to the spirit of the original recordings.
