Sampling Is Beautiful Trio

Recently appearing as the opening act for Vulfpeck at Jazz à Vienne 2024, Sampling is Beautiful Trio is composed of: Zajazza on turntables and samplers (has produced for Gaël Faye, HomeboySandman, etc.), Yacha Berdah on trumpet and bass (Grand Corps Malade, Ibrahim Maalouf, etc.), and Japhet Boristhène on drums (Saïan Supa Crew, Chassol, Shibuuya).

Sampling Is Beautiful is: ‘A trio, a collective, a vibe, stylistic freedom, instinctive and improvised diversions.’ These are the words of artist Kaynixe in the introduction to this album.
In their first album, Capture, released in early 2024, each ‘captured’ sample is highlighted, cherished, reversed, modified… and finally used as a melodic or rhythmic basis for constructing a new piece. With a certain dark magic or piracy, this first instalment is a snapshot of the Trio’s musical moment, filled with tributes to the sampled composers, nods to jazz and film music. Yacha, Japhet and Zajazza, surrounded by many talented artists, share here this colourful musical tableau of samples and each other’s journeys.
