Yalla Miku + GUESS WHAT

10 years of the Bongo Joe label

The Swiss label, associated with Le Périscope, is celebrating its tenth anniversary. Ten years of listening, searching, digging, sharing. Ten years of championing records deemed essential because they told a story—of a place, a moment, a movement. Ten years of militant, cosmopolitan creativity and one of the richest and most daring catalogs on the current scene.

Bongo Joe has explored the experimental Spanish underground of the post-Franco era, promoted the synthetic raï music of Lyon played by musicians from the Maghreb, and unearthed rare sounds from the archipelago of São Tomé and Príncipe. The independent label has also launched and supported the careers of artists such as Altin Gün, Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek, Orchestre Tout Puissant Marcel Duchamp, Cyril Cyril, Sami Galbi (the list is so long that it’s best to visit their website to appreciate their unclassifiable discography).

We are therefore delighted to welcome two groups from our own label:

Yalla Miku

After a critically acclaimed debut album in 2023 and numerous tours across Europe, Yalla Miku returns with “2,” a new opus that further affirms their uniqueness. Based in Geneva, the band has evolved with a new lineup—not as a change, but as the natural continuation of a project conceived from the outset as a space for encounters, circulation, and musical reinvention.

Between post-kraut, mutant folklore, and electronic trance, Yalla Miku continues to create a dialogue between the traditions of the Horn of Africa and the freest experiments of the Geneva underground. Samuel Ades Tesfagergsh’s krar riffs, Louise Knobil’s sculptural bass, Cyril Bondi’s nervous percussion, Emma Souharce’s machines, and Cyril Yeterian’s modified banjo weave a dense, collective soundscape full of breaks and pulsations.

Here, there is no smooth fusion or frozen folklore: “ 2” is an interplanetary journey where multiple voices overlap, clash, or complement each other. It is music of otherness, constructed as a shared space where each timbre retains its roughness. With this second album, Yalla Miku delves deeper into its aesthetic: a raw, militant, unclassifiable sound—for curious ears and open hearts.

GUESS WHAT

The duo 𝗚𝗨𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 brings together Luke Warmcop (Orchestre du Mont-Plaisant) and Graham Mushnik (The Slow Slushy Boys, Derya Yildirim & Grup Şimşek), a masked duo that has been rocking the European underground scene for over 15 years. Their strange and danceable grooves are inspired by the mystical times of antiquity, B-movies from the 60s and 70s, and popular transcontinental rhythms. Their latest album is simply dedicated to the education of children in space stations.

GUESS WHAT

Two years later, the duo moved to London and founded the Catapulte Records label with a long-time collaborator, Antonin Voyant (L’Orchestre […]
