JOKARI

With her JOKARI project, Marion Josserand crafts songs with a flavour of Malabar Bigoût sweets and playing truant.

After studying jazz in Toulouse and playing in several bands (Boost 3000, OE, Terrain Vague…), she has developed her songwriting style around verse-chorus structures, composed on the organ in a corner of her bedroom and then pieced together using violin, synths, guitar and a pocket drum kit.

A playground where colourful electronic pop, inventive and playful structures, surreal French vocals, nostalgic escapades and orchestral bursts all come together.

From the intimacy of bedroom pop to the exuberance of indie rock, her songs find their joy in what is intangible or already gone — a poetry that tries to catch water with bare hands. Her work reflects the influences of Françoise Hardy, Katerine and Brigitte Fontaine, whilst musically she displays an unmistakable love for Broadcast, Beach House and Juan Wauters.

Her latest album, a personal diary of a sort, Caillou, was released on the Geneva-based label Cheptel Records (Bandit Voyage, Belvoir).

Canari Gros Calibre

Canari Gros Calibre are a trio – with detuned synths, guitars that aren’t always quite in tune, and a voice where you’re not quite sure whether it’s trying to imitate David Byrne or Joe Dassin – whose songs always seem on the verge of falling apart but manage to hold it together. In any case, they don’t really have a choice. Their latest album, “Emporter les restes”, was released earlier this year on the Musique Muscle and Fabliau labels.
