La Mòssa
In partnership with La Curieuse
In the story of perpetual motion that is La Mòssa, there is a core of four artists determined to blend their voices and percussion, shaking up a few stereotypes along the way. Drawing on traditional repertoires to polish a gem of a debut album, they now offer us a new dive. By creating a set of compositions firmly rooted in the present, these four women more harshly disrupt the apparent naivety of rhythms and melodies from centuries-old traditions.
In 2019, the heart of their album moss’! pulsated with ancient rhythms, featuring songs with original variations. They were already blending languages, cultures, and emotions from old stories, embodying them with their contemporary energy. In 2023, these world artists return with a new opus that moves away from traditional songs to connect with the world of today.
La Mòssa continues to grow in strength in its interactions with the sounds and meanings of words. With this repertoire, mostly composed by the band itself, the group is making a new mark on its history… Each member of the band participates in this great musical feast, which is at once subtle, feverish, and committed. It features flavors from lands of cultural fusion: southern Italy as the original breeding ground, Réunion and its candy-chili words, Spain poeticized by Garcia Lorca, Occitania with its strong voice… Three covers are mixed into this new set; hybrid reinterpretations from Sweden, Venezuela, and Puglia.
Emmanuelle Ader, Sara Giommetti, Aude Marchand, and Lilia Ruocco break free from the codes of the genre, drawing on their freedom as much as on their respective influences. In search of rougher sounds, they forcefully summon percussion instruments, which become a fifth voice and add substance.
La Mòssa is always on the move!
