Tatanka Quartet
Release Party · In partnership with La Bisonne
Featuring Emmanuelle Legros, Carole Marque B. Kaftandjian, Guillaume Lavergne and Guillaume Bertrand
Release party for Sowi Ingwa, Tatanka’s third album. A group of explorers, they traverse both inner landscapes and sonic territories with the same adventurous grace. Founded by trumpeter Emmanuelle Legros in 2018, Tatanka means ‘bison’ in the Sioux language: a word evoking nature and the great outdoors, which this trio captures beautifully in their jazz improvisations.
Now keen to explore new sounds, they have invited Carole Marque-B. Kaftandjian – a lover of Armenian and Anatolian music – to play the duduk (which is similar to an Armenian oboe), the Turkish clarinet, the saz, and to sing.
Tatanka has forged an identity and a sound through inspiring, melodious tunes, an exploration of timbres for each new composition, inspiration drawn from Indian culture in its closeness to nature, and a quest for simplicity, authenticity and boldness. Then there is the blend of voices. Indeed, here, everyone sings.
