Sanam

Beirut, Lebanon

Sanam sounds like a ritual between two worlds: where improvised rock and free jazz underline an exorcism of traditional Egyptian song and Arabic poetry. The sextet musicians from Beirut transform Arabic texts and traditional melodies into an explosive mix of noise-rock, free-jazz, post-folk and atmospheric sounds. Their music begins meditatively, almost trance-like – and ends in a whirlwind of energy.
