Marion Cousin & Eloïse Decazes

Marion Cousin’s research focuses on the Iberian Peninsula and its sung traditions.

Since 2020, her third project has been written with another singer and instrumentalist, Éloïse Decazes, known for her work with Arlt and guitarist Eric Chenaux, a voice with a timbre and tessitura similar to Marion Cousin’s. The aim is no longer to find a “single voice”, as the music industry dictates, but a common voice, in which identities blend, specificities intersect and emotions are caressed. When Marion Cousin invited Eloïse Decazes to work with her on a repertoire – sometimes polyphonic – from the Trás-os-Montes region in north-east Portugal, she began by teaching her about this repertoire, its language – Mirandese – its grammar and pronunciation, but also its modes and temperaments.

A long-term project – unlike the first two albums, arranged and recorded in a single gesture and a few days – this collaboration has been written and recorded over the last two years, during sessions held in Auvergne at Eloïse Decazes’ home.
