Épépé

Épépé, ephemeral choirs and infinite canon.
Épépé is a solo by Béatrice Morel Journel, from the northern half of Grand Veymont.
After 2 albums recorded in the living room, where layers of voices and all the instruments available in the joy of the improvised home studio accumulated, Épépé realised that there weren’t enough of her to play them on stage. So she set about creating new music that she could perform alone in concert. The pleasure of vocal harmonies blossoms here in the play with delay, in the same way as with Grand Veymont, to unfold endless canons and ephemeral choruses on a bed of synthesizers and old-fashioned rhythms.
Épépé, named after Ferenc Karinthy’s book, offers instrumental music, sometimes with French lyrics, that takes in everything from bookshop music and sound illustration to synth pop, traditional music, early music, film music, jazz and proto-electronic music.
Likes vocal harmonies, three for four, houhous and hahas, sometimes papalames, mixing synthetic and acoustic sounds, seeks variation of theme, harmonic thickness and thrills, tries to be right, but not particularly in terms of pitch, is not against improvisation as a mode of composition, wants to make beautiful things, takes meticulous care with the finishing touches of the texts.
