Victoria Alexanyan, a vocalist shaped by a lifetime between Armenia and France and influenced by a wide range of musical traditions, has brought together musicians from diverse backgrounds to create a distinctive form of jazz that bridges East and West.
Her deeply personal compositions come to life through a genuine collective creative process. On her debut quintet album, she does more than revisit Armenia’s turbulent history—she transforms anger into poetry and expresses a sensitive, freedom-driven vision of the world.
Improvisation and modal colors intertwine to create a rich sonic landscape where melody always remains at the heart of the music, flourishing between carefully crafted composition and artistic freedom. Driven by remarkable sensitivity, her music blends the complex rhythmic patterns of traditional music with the natural flow and spontaneity of jazz, giving rise to a powerful and untamed musical universe.
Sampling is Beautiful
Step into the distinctive world of Sampling Is Beautiful Trio, an innovative group that fuses the rhythms of jazz with the energy of hip-hop through interactive live performances and a creative approach to sampling. Founded in 2022, the trio draws its strength from the rich and varied backgrounds of its three members:
- Clément Sergé, aka Zajazza (samplers, turntables, keyboards), is a multi-genre DJ and producer who has collaborated with artists including Gaël Faye and Homeboy Sandman.
- Yacha Berdah (trumpet, bass, looper) has performed alongside artists such as Ibrahim Maalouf, Grand Corps Malade, and Gaël Faye.
- Japhet Boristhène (drums, rap) has established himself as one of the leading drummers on the French jazz scene, collaborating with acts including Saïan Supa Crew, Chassol, and Shibuuya.
Together, the trio pushes the boundaries of musical creation by combining the traditional instruments of jazz with contemporary sampling technologies. Trumpet, drums, scratches, and loops intertwine to shape a vibrant, daring, and deeply original soundscape. Through their music, they invite audiences to rediscover sampling as a true creative instrument and embark on a sonic journey that transcends eras and musical aesthetics.
