Ousia

Ousia (Ilana Winderickx Tabarelli) is a Belgian-Italian electronic music producer and sculptor, based in Geneva (CH), and holds a Master’s degree in Visual Arts from HEAD.

Her music is rooted in an intimate exploration situated between dark ambient and broken drums, within a dark and introspective aesthetic filtered through a mystical lens. She composes using samples drawn from various instrumental sources (electric guitar, synthesizer, cassette tapes) and field recordings, which she sequences and interweaves on her sampler before transforming them using effects pedals. Through these sonic materials, she explores themes related to cycles, grief, empathy, rupture, and feminism, revealing the fragile yet deeply resilient dimension of human experience.

Influenced by the experimental audacity of Coil, the emotional intensity of Puce Mary, and the radically free attitude of Kim Gordon, she crafts soundscapes where distortion, saturation, and surreal, cinematic layers merge with samples from political archives. Fragments of speeches or artists’ voices nourish a form of empowerment through sound, where listening becomes both an act of affirmation and introspection.

In 2021, she co-founded the electronic music label Lachrymose Rescue, dedicated to Swiss and international sound artists. In 2022, she was awarded a seven-month artistic residency in Buenos Aires, where she continued her practice and lived until June 2025. There, she notably performed live for Muito Radio and Ciclo Bauhaus, and took part in several sound residencies in Switzerland, including two in collaboration with AMEG (Association for Electroacoustic Music) in Geneva.

Her work is also recognized in the field of visual arts: in 2022, she exhibited at the Centre d’Art Contemporain in Geneva as part of the BLCG grants; in 2024, she received a contemporary art research grant from FCAC to work with Argentine sculptor Leo Vinci; and in 2023, she was a finalist for the Kiefer Hablitzel Stiftung Prize in Basel.

Her track Rouge Gorge will soon be released on the Lausanne-based label Pulse Records, while she is currently working on an EP to be released on the Argentine label Nodo Label. Her past releases include Scratching Around the Mist on the Geneva-based label Brainwaves, Now Is Blessed under her former alias Derickx on Lachrymose Rescue, and Breakcore Is Happening in My Room on W.T.N.T.
