Elif Gülin Soğuksu

Berlin, Germany

Elif Gülin Soğuksu is an electroacoustic composer, sound artist, performer, and researcher born in Istanbul and currently based in Berlin. She obtained her master’s degree from the Institute of Sonology in The Hague (Netherlands).

Elif draws inspiration from the fleeting nature and cross-modality of the imagination in sound; her compositional practice is based on capturing the sounds of the mind. Her research focuses primarily on the human voice as a powerful force in the formation of mentally produced sounds through the polyphony of theoretical and practical frameworks. Her electroacoustic pieces and live performances bridge different algorithmic approaches, including voice-driven live electronics and creative coding, digital processing, acousmatic music, and spatial sound.

She explores the peripheries of the sensory and perceptual currencies of the voice, auditory hallucinations, and the tactile nature of sound. She released her first EP, Unapologetic Testimonies, on Søvn Records in July 2024, as well as other tracks on Riforma and MIC Lithuania. She works as a sound designer for multidisciplinary projects and as a sound engineer and technician for live concerts.

Her recent and upcoming residencies include the Topia Festival (Germany), Kintai.Kitaip (Lithuania), Sound Topographies GMEA Albi (France), Elektronmusikstudion EMS Stockholm (Sweden), and the NOPA sound art festival in Yerevan (Armenia). She has previously completed internships at Subtext Recordings, MONOM, spæsLab, and Errant Sound in Berlin. She is a curatorial partner of the Istanbul Listening Biennial.
