Hurricane Pixvae returns to shake up our perceptions with a release party that lives up to its reputation! The new album « De lado a lado » further deepens the Franco-Colombian combo’s footprint in the ever-exploring territories of neo-traditional music… These masters of hybridization continue to inject explosive substances into the currulao that catalyzed their meeting.

Pixvae’s compact and powerful sound has become a trademark since the phenomenon was born in a shared imagination somewhere above the currents of the Pacific… Their music is both rooted in the depths of tradition and supercharged by the stylistic freedom of the contemporary underground. With « De lado a lado » the band reaches a new level in the intertwining of Afro-Colombian rhythms and noise rock. The formula is all the more effective after two intense years of touring in the original sextet version.

The founding French trio, long united around the explosive Romain Dugelay, has gradually been joined by another trio from the Pacific coast of Colombia, the birthplace of currulao. Léo Dumont’s enhanced drums and Damien Cluzel’s transcendent guitar continue their insatiable communion with the composer’s saxophones and keyboards, accompanied on this album by Juan Carlos Arrechea and Israel Quinones… The former continues his work of transmitting, across eras and cultures, the central instrument of currulao: the chonta marimba. The latter contributes percussion and vocals, along with another extraordinary voice, that of Jennifer “Xiomora” Torres. By intensifying its presence in France, the Colombian team has further optimized the fusion aspect of this collective adventure… Pixvae is a gathering of paths traced from different points on the horizon on the map of an imaginary continent!

Writing original lyrics allows for a contemporary approach to themes traditionally addressed in currulao, full of the power of everyday life and the relationship with natural and spiritual environments. In a post-modern society that dissociates nature and culture or prioritizes profit over fulfillment, the simple title of the album, « De lado a lado » is rich in meaning about the group’s approach. It evokes a claimed otherness and the simple yet complex pleasure of being in the world.
