Magrava is a noise duo formed by Cyril Meysson (guitar - also in Noyades) and Rodolphe Loubatière (drums). After their first LP Sédition released in 2017 and noticed by magazines such as Wire or Revue & Corrigée, their new album ʭɧ was released in October 2019 on the Sino-French label WV Sorcerer Productions, specialized in dark and experimental music. To the urgency and madness of their first record follows a much more direct path: a bubbling sound material which aims at trance not in rhythmic repetition, but in the total abolition of the measure as well as the complete saturation of the sound space.
Magrava is the miraculous junction between Cyril Meysson (world maker and unavoidable guitarist of the French noise rock xp scene, notably within the excellent trio Noyades) and Rodolphe Loubatière (real drummer-volcano combining jazz delicacy and saving violence) in a martial face to face, where each one finds the way to the other at the end of an impressive struggle with his instrument. It's like the origin of the music. At its end too. A mass to be experienced to the fullest.
Guitarist and multi-instrumentalist. Leader of the psychedelic rock band Acid Mothers Temple.
Although he is best known for his heroism as a speed guru guitarist with AMT, he is also the founder of his own ecstatic guitar drone school using bow and glissando techniques.
Kawabata began publishing works for electronics and homemade instruments in 1978. Since then, his activities have been almost too vast to grasp: he has formed multiple units, released a plethora of albums on labels around the world, and toured extensively in Europe, the United States and Asia.
His collaborations truly span multiple genres. He has played with such psychedelic creators as Gong, Guru Guru, Silver Apples, Nik Turner, Damo Suzuki, Träd Gräs och Stenar and Geoff Leigh ; with avant-garde giants such as Keiji Haino, Tatsuya Yoshida, Charles Hayward, Jean-François Pauvros, Richard Youngs and Tatsuya Nakatani; and with traditional Occitan musicians such as Rosina de Peira, Marc Perrone, André Minvielle and Beatritz.
In 2019, he began performing and creating new works for modular synthesizers, a return to the electronic music that was the starting point of his musical career. He has also worked as a producer and mixing engineer for many bands and musicians, including Fursaxa, maquiladora, Hibushibire and squimaoto.
